What Regulation (EU) 2025/40 is, and since when it applies

Regulation (EU) 2025/40 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 December 2024 on packaging and packaging waste — known as the PPWR — has applied since 12 August 2026 across the European Union and replaces the former Directive 94/62/EC. It covers any packaging placed on the European market, and a jewellery box, case or pouch is packaging.

What it means for a jeweller or a brand

When you hand over a piece of jewellery inside a box or a pouch, you are placing packaging in your customer's hands. Among other things, the Regulation requires the heavy metal limit to be respected, substances of concern to be minimised, and documentation to back it up.

For the packaging we supply you, that documentation comes from us.

What you get with every reference

Each of our products has its own product declaration and EU declaration of conformity, signed by MY ECOBOXES, S.L.U. and downloadable as a PDF from the product page, in the six languages of this website. Each declaration states:

  • Product identification: reference, description, series, colour, external dimensions and materials.
  • Country of origin.
  • Compliance with Regulation (EU) 2025/40 for the requirements applicable on the date of the document.
  • Heavy metals (Art. 5): the sum of lead, cadmium, mercury and hexavalent chromium in the packaging and in each of its components does not exceed 100 mg/kg.
  • Substances of concern (Art. 5): their presence has been minimised. PFAS restrictions do not apply, as the packaging is not intended for food contact.
  • Conformity assessment by internal production control (Annex VII), with the technical documentation kept for 5 years and available to the competent authorities.
  • Requirements applicable at a later date (recyclability, recycled content and labelling): they will be added to the declaration when they become mandatory.

How to download a product's declaration

Open the product page and look for the red line «COMPLIANCE WITH REGULATION (EU) 2025/40 PPWR. PRODUCT DECLARATION», just above the price. Clicking it opens the PDF for that reference in the language you are browsing in; you can save it or forward it to your client or your adviser.

You can start with jewellery boxes, with luxury boxes or with pouches and bags.

What this declaration is not

  • It is not a certificate issued by the European Union or by a notified body: the Regulation does not require one for this type of packaging. It is a declaration issued under the operator's own responsibility, which is exactly the route the Regulation sets out.
  • It does not replace your own obligations as a shop or a brand: registering and paying extended producer responsibility (EPR) in your country remains yours, as does informing consumers about waste sorting for the product you pack.
  • It does not cover changes made to the packaging by a third party after delivery.
